Review: The Voice ™ New Testament by Thomas Nelson Publishers

The Voice ™ New Testament by Thomas Nelson Publishers is a remarkable telling of the New Testament, written in story format.  If you’re like me and find yourself having a difficult time sticking with what you’re reading (I’m a mom of 4 and distractions easily occur) then get yourself this Bible – I picked it up when I got home and read through the book of Matthew easily – the format had me reading the Word for hours!
This collaboration between Thomas Nelson Publishers and Ecclesia Bible Society brought about The Voice.  It was compiled by 27 Bible scholars, 51 writers and 36 other contributors who put together this engaging lyrical version of the New Testament.  The special features of this bible include hundreds of notes throughout the content. The publisher has included four reading plans for reading the New Testament – these are:
a)      Reading to Celebrate Advent
b)      Readings for Lent and Easter
c)      Reading the New Testament in 24 weeks
d)     Daily Readings for Personal Growth (40 days with God)
This is a collage of engaging narrative, poetry, song, truth and wisdom.  The front cover invites you to “step into the story of Scripture” and with this Bible, you really do feel as if you have stepped into the story and the characters depicted in this story, truly do “come to life”.  It is wonderful to picture the person of Jesus as he was walking and talking with the people of the time.  The team behind this collaborative project have indeed been successful in producing a work that inspires, captivates and depicts the beauty of God’s word which we  know was fully depicted in the original languages the Scriptures were recorded in.
The overall typeface of the Bible is quite small but it’s definitely not uncomfortable to read and the information blocks explaining situations or traditions or people are in a different font. This Bible is durable (bound in the way of,  and printed the paper of a regular book) and falls under the Thomas Nelson GUARANTEED FOR LIFE guarantee.
As a mom of teenagers who complain that reading the Bible is difficult for them (even in the newer translations), I know that I am definitely going to purchase some of these for my kids to get to know God through his word as put forward in the Voice.  I am super excited to see that this team have a full leather bound version coming in April 2012!
